The story
Josh Futturman, a janitor by day/world-ranked gamer by night, is tasked with preventing the extinction of humanity after mysterious visitors from the future proclaim him the key to defeating the imminent super-race invasion.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated, almost cartoonish California light: sunny suburban interiors, fluorescent-lit high school hallways, and a glossy, deliberately polished digital look that cuts between grimy dystopian ruins and clean, gadget-filled futuristic sets. The camera is mostly handheld-casual in the comedy scenes, with quick zooms, snappy cuts, and frequent fourth-wall glances, while the future sequences lean toward wide, washed-out desolation. Sound is upbeat pop, chiptune-flavored game music, and cheeky sci-fi stingers. The vibe is goofy, irreverent, and warm: a lighthearted romp with a slacker-geek energy that shifts into bleak rubble and then back out again. Pacing is brisk, with one-liners and gags landing fast, and the emotional core is a shy, underestimated man gradually growing into his own courage alongside a found-family crew. Violence is frequent and stylised, with slapstick brawls, sci-fi gunfire, and some crude, cartoonish gore played for laughs; sexual humour is bawdy and recurring, and profanity is constant. It suits a casual binge with friends or a comfort-watch for viewers who like nerdy, self-aware comedy and don't mind a rude streak.
