The story

Professor Philip Goodman devotes his life to exposing phony psychics and fraudulent supernatural shenanigans. His skepticism soon gets put to the test when he receives news of three chilling and inexplicable cases -- disturbing visions in an abandoned asylum, a car accident deep in the woods and the spirit of an unborn child. Even scarier -- each of the macabre stories seems to have a sinister connection to the professor's own life.

What it’s like

Dim, enclosed rooms lit by lamps and flashlight beams, with the theatrical staging of its stage origins still visible in how scenes are framed and held. Winter British locations feel cold and damp: an empty asylum corridor, a dark wooded road, a quiet house where the walls seem to listen. The sound design leans on silence and sudden stings, so the dread builds in the gaps between sharp jolts. The mood is uneasy and wry, with a sceptic's sardonic humour undercutting the scares, and the tension lands as creeping unease rather than constant terror. Pacing comes in distinct chapters that tighten as the threads start to connect, and the arc follows a cynical man whose certainties are slowly stripped away. The intensity is moderate: frightening, with jump scares and eerie apparitions, plus a brief, startling car-crash sequence with some injury, but little gore and no sexual content. It suits a late-night watch with the lights low, and it is for viewers who enjoy clever, jolting ghost stories and an unsettling twist-driven structure more than atmospheric slow-burn horror.
