The story

** WorldCat: Zany fun about all kinds of dogs and their doings, ending with a party at the top of a tree. ** Barnes and Noble: Reading goes to the dogs in this timeless Beginner Book edited by Dr. Seuss. From big dogs and little dogs to red, green, and blue dogs, dogs going up and dogs going fast . . . who knew dogs were so busy? And laughter will ensue at the repeated question “Do you like my hat?” Like P. D. Eastman’s classic Are You My Mother? Go, Dog. Go! has been a go-to favorite for over fifty years, leaving audiences of all breeds wagging their tails with delight. ** LibraryThing Reviewer: (Heather S. McCormick - Sep 18, 2019) I love this book, it's easy to read. has tons to look at in the books. I also like how throughout the book there is a reappearing girl who asks about her hat.

What it’s like

Bold primary-and-pastel line drawings on crisp white pages, with dogs in every colour imaginable (red, green, blue, yellow) darting across simple backgrounds of roads, hills and a leafy tree. The look is bright, uncluttered and deliberately cartoonish, with plenty of small comic details to find in each spread. The rhythm is quick and bouncy, built on short rhymed sentences and repeated refrains that a reader can chant along to, and the mood is pure playful energy with no tension at all: a silly parade of dogs who go up, down, fast and slow, and a gentle running gag about a girl's hat that ends in a tree-top party. Gentle throughout, with no violence, peril or fear. It suits a read-aloud on a sunny afternoon, a bedtime story with a wiggly toddler, or a first solo reading for a child just learning to decode. Made for very young children, early readers and the adults who read with them.
