The story

A 'Man from the Future' arrives at an LA diner where he must recruit the precise combination of disgruntled patrons to join him on a one-night quest to save the world from the terminal threat of a rogue artificial intelligence.

What it’s like

Warm diner light against a Los Angeles night, with the city's sprawl pressing in from outside, sets the scene for this blunt, wry sci-fi comedy. Most of the time sits in one booth-and-counter space, where a stranger from the future tries to assemble a crew of irritable regulars for a single night's mission against a runaway artificial intelligence. The mood swings between sardonic banter and sudden action, with a dark-future undertow that keeps the humour from feeling weightless. Time-travel logic, transhumanist unease and a strained mother-son thread give the talk a reflective, cautionary edge, and the pacing is brisk, built around escalating set pieces and quick exchanges rather than long quiet stretches. Expect action-genre violence and peril, with the tone more bruising than gory, and no sense of gentleness. It suits viewers who want a fast, talky genre piece with dark humour, a restless ensemble and a lingering sense of what the future could cost, watched on a late night or a loud, wide-awake evening.
