The story

It's 1984 - a tender love story succumbs to the anti-Sikh riots. It's 2016 - IPS officer Amrita Singh uncovers a secret connecting that past to her present.

What it’s like

Shifting between two eras, the mood moves from warm and hopeful to heavy and investigative. The 1984 strand opens on a tender romance, with its intimacy and small domestic moments set against a rising unease that breaks into communal violence. The 2016 strand is colder and more procedural, following a police officer as she pulls at old threads and reopens a wound she didn't expect to find. Expect a slow, deliberate build rather than a quick hook, with long stretches of quiet grief and tension between the explosive scenes. The violence is serious and not glossed over: the riots and the crimes they leave behind are depicted with real weight, and the cruelty is sharp enough to sit uneasily. It is not gentle viewing and it doesn't soften its subject. The tone is grave, sorrowful and morally pointed. It suits viewers who want a slow-burning crime drama with emotional depth and historical gravity, and who can sit with difficult material over several evenings.
