The story
All the circuits and drivers of the 1994 Formula 1 World Championship is recreated in Geoff Crammond's second racing simulation. The game is viewed from within the cockpit - external views are provided primarily for use in replays or demonstrations. Texture mapping and full detail in the rear view mirrors are available for almost every visible feature. The game has 5 skill levels, 7 driving aids such as automatic brakes and a dotted 'ideal racing line' to follow available on lower skill levels, and variable race and practice session lengths. You will have to alter the car's setup to get the best possible car performance - this ranges from standard features such as brake balance and gear ratios onto more technical ones such as spring settings and the ride height. Multiplayer games involve either taking it in turns on a single computer, or on a linkup.
What it’s like
Cockpit-view racing under flat, washed-out daylight, with the grey tarmac and grass verges of 1994 circuits rendered in early texture-mapped polygons, and the rear-view mirror carrying its own detail of the cars behind. The sound is the engine itself: a thin, scraping DOS-era whine rising through the gears, tyres chirping on corners and the hiss of a pit lane, with almost no music to break it up. Pacing is methodical rather than frantic, built around practice laps, fiddling with brake balance and ride height, and then a long race where small mistakes compound over dozens of laps. The vibe is earnest, technical and quietly absorbing, a rainy-afternoon tinkering session more than a thrill ride. Intensity is low: no violence, no gore, and crashes are mechanical rather than dramatic, though the tension of a tight overtake can spike. Best suited to players who want a faithful, numbers-driven motorsport simulation and enjoy learning a car's behaviour over many sessions, especially those drawn to the historical roster of drivers and circuits from the 1994 season.
