The story
Project Gotham Racing 2 is a racing game for the Xbox, developed by Bizarre Creations and published by Microsoft. PGR2 is the sequel to the highly successful Project Gotham Racing. It is the second title in the Project Gotham Racing series
What it’s like
Bright, saturated city light and crisp early-2000s polygon cars that gleam under sodium streetlamps, sunset glare on wet asphalt, and blurred neon streaks when you hit top speed. The sound is a loud, varied licensed soundtrack of rock, electronic and hip-hop pumping through the cabin, broken by the clipped roar of engines and the cheer of crowds during replays. The pace is fast and bursty: short timed events, drift and speed-camera challenges, quick restarts, and a steady rush of unlocks that keeps the momentum going. The emotional register is adrenaline-fuelled and cheerfully competitive, with a playful, slightly cocky swagger rather than real menace. Intensity is low: crashes produce sparks and tumbling cars, but there is no blood, gore or real cruelty, just the mild tension of chasing a medal. It suits a weekend session with friends in split-screen, a late-night run of "one more event," or a nostalgic return to the original Xbox era. It is for players who want arcade speed, stylish replays and a rock-heavy soundtrack, and who enjoy a sense of progression.
