The story
Having found the safety of the Greenland bunker after the comet Clarke decimated the Earth, the Garrity family must now risk everything to embark on a perilous journey across the wasteland of Europe to find a new home.
What it’s like
Bleak, grey-brown landscapes under a dust-choked sky, with the cold and wind of a continent after impact, make up much of the look. Handheld, close-in camera work keeps the focus on a family moving through ruined towns, snowfields and abandoned roads, and the frame often tightens on faces when the danger spikes. The score is likely to sit under long stretches of hushed travel and then swell into urgent percussive pulses during chases and disasters. Pacing alternates between quiet, exhausted stretches and sudden bursts of peril, and the mood is tense and mournful rather than cozy. Its emotional core is a protective father and a traumatized child who lean on each other as the journey grinds on. Expect constant threat, sharp scenes of disaster and some violence, with fear and cruelty more present than gore. It suits a late-night watch for viewers who want survival drama with a strong family thread and an unrelenting sense of danger, but it is not a gentle pick.
