The story
Haak is a Metroidvania-inspired action-platformer, allowing you to explore the apocalyptic wasteland. During the process of exploration, you need to develop your skills, fight with the mysterious organization entrenched in this world, solve various mysteries, and embrace the world's ultimate secret.
What it’s like
Pixel-art wastelands with dim, sickly palettes and the lonely quiet of a ruined world, where the mood leans noir: rain-dark alleys, shadowed interiors, and sudden bursts of light against the gloom. The sound suits it, with sparse electronic ambience and tense, low-key pulses during fights. Pacing is measured and exploratory. You backtrack through interconnected zones, unlocking new abilities that open previously sealed paths, and the rhythm alternates between wandering and short, sharp skirmishes. Combat is a steady part of the experience, with stylized, pixelated action rather than prolonged gore, and the tension comes more from dread and isolation than from shock. The emotional register is brooding and curious, with a sense of slowly uncovering secrets in a hostile landscape. Best for players who enjoy platforming and map-based exploration in a grim, atmospheric setting, late at night or in focused stretches, and who don't need anything gentle or light.
