The story
Two young missionaries are forced to prove their faith when they knock on the wrong door and are greeted by a diabolical Mr. Reed, becoming ensnared in his deadly game of cat-and-mouse.
What it’s like
Mostly confined to one suburban house, this film is built on tight two-shot conversations, slow pushes toward faces, and a suffocating sense of shrinking space. Its lighting leans on warm lamplight, rain-streaked windows, and soft shadow, so the homely rooms feel more unsettling than the dark ones. The score is sparse and strained, with long stretches of near silence broken by pointed, hushed dialogue that makes every pause feel loaded. Pacing is deliberate and talky at first, then tightens into a restless, cat-and-mouse rhythm. Its tone is cerebral and tense, with unease that comes from argument, performance, and power rather than jump scares. Violence is sudden and brief when it arrives, with sharp, uncomfortable moments but little lingering gore, and there is no sexual content. The emotional core follows two young people testing the limits of their convictions under pressure, alongside a charming, eccentric antagonist. It suits a late-night, lights-low watch for viewers who enjoy psychological horror, philosophical sparring, and slow-building dread over bloodshed.
