The story

For Rod Kimble, performing stunts is a way of life, even though he is rather accident-prone. Poor Rod cannot even get any respect from his stepfather, Frank, who beats him up in weekly sparring matches. When Frank falls ill, Rod devises his most outrageous stunt yet to raise money for Frank's operation -- and then Rod will kick Frank's butt.

What it’s like

Bright, sun-washed suburban daylight, flat sitcom-style setups, and a soundtrack of cheesy 80s rock and synth pulse give this a cheerfully dumb, parodic energy. Stunt sequences are staged with loose, kinetic camera moves and a lot of comic pratfalls, while training montages and fight scenes play like an exaggerated homage to action movies. The vibe is goofy and warm, a lazy-Saturday comedy for background laughs or a silly night in with friends. Pacing is brisk and gag-driven, with a loose, improvised feel and a lot of absurd bits. The emotional register stays light: a clueless, big-hearted misfit chasing approval from a gruff stepfather, with the bond between them played for affectionate laughs. Intensity is low: plenty of slapstick falls, mock fights, and crude jokes and profanity, but no gore and little real menace. It suits viewers who want goofy, low-stakes absurdist comedy and a nostalgic wink at action-movie clichés.
