The story
Tells the story of the ascent of the biblical figure, David, who becomes the most celebrated king of Israel. The series follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride. At the direction of God, the prophet Samuel anoints an unlikely, outcast teenager as the new king.
What it’s like
Sun-bleached Judean hills under a hard, golden light, with wide desert vistas, dusty stone villages, and firelit tents at dusk. Camera work leans toward sweeping crane shots and steady, measured dolly moves that settle on faces during quiet exchanges, while the battle sequences are staged at a broad scale with rising dust and crowded ranks. The score is orchestral and choral, with strings and horns swelling at moments of resolve and dropping to a sparse, prayerful hush in intimate scenes. The mood is earnest, reverent and sincere, with a steady, unhurried pace that gives its episodes room to breathe. The arc follows a proud, failing king set against a young shepherd who is overlooked and then chosen, moving from humility toward courage. Violence is present and occasionally bloody, with battlefield combat and a central giant-killing duel, but it is not lingered on for gore, and romantic or sensual content stays restrained. It suits a Sunday afternoon with the family, or anyone who wants a faith-centred epic with a sense of ancient grandeur. It is made for viewers who want scripture-rooted storytelling with an uplifting, hopeful finish.
