The story
Aditya, an engineer, travels to Canada for training. There he meets Jia, a beautiful woman from an influential family. Fate keeps pushing the pair together, and even though both are already betrothed to others, Adi and Jia fall in love.
What it’s like
Glossy, saturated Bollywood frames: snow-white Canadian winter exteriors that give way to warm, lamp-lit interiors, with bright primary colours in the song sequences and wide, showy compositions. The score is melodic and string-heavy, with romantic songs that break up the scenes and give the picture a steady, sweeping pulse. The mood is sentimental and bittersweet, a lush, old-fashioned romance about two people who meet at the wrong moment and keep finding each other anyway. Its pace is leisurely, with long stretches of longing, glances and family talk between the big musical numbers. Its emotional register is earnest and melodramatic, and its central arc follows a dutiful man and a spirited woman slowly admitting what they feel against the wishes of the people around them. There is no graphic violence or gore, and sexual content stays suggestive and mild. Family tension and heartbreak provide the main friction. It suits a rainy weekend afternoon, a comfort watch for fans of classic romantic melodrama, or viewers who enjoy a gentle, musical love story with a warm, nostalgic glow.
