The story

When a suspect is found in a journalist's murder, the case is considered closed until a secret diary suggests 13 more victims — and possible cannibalism.

What it’s like

Flat, observational camerawork dominates: static interview setups, archival newspaper clippings and police photographs laid over slow pans, and dim, muted interiors lit by overhead tube light and the blue glow of screens. The palette runs to cold greys, ochre and rust, with grainy reconstructions that feel deliberately unpolished. Sound is sparse, built on low synth drones and ticking percussion that swell at each revelation and then fall back to near silence, letting the testimony of investigators and reporters carry the weight. The pacing is methodical and cumulative, each episode peeling back another layer of the case with the patience of a slow document dump rather than a thriller's jolts. The emotional register is grim and sober, a mood of unease and institutional frustration rather than shock for its own sake. Violence is discussed and shown through photographs and reconstructions, with the cannibalism allegations described in unsparing detail; expect graphic crime-scene content, disturbing testimony and recurring dread, though little on-screen gore. Not gentle. It suits late-night, alone viewing by people who want true crime that is investigative and unhurried, and who can sit with disturbing material without needing it softened.
