The story

This series examines the gruesome and horrific true crimes of Jeffrey Dahmer and the systemic failures that enabled one of America’s most notorious serial killers to continue his murderous spree in plain sight for over a decade.

What it’s like

Cold, clinical fluorescents and washed-out beige apartment interiors give way to Milwaukee's flat, grey winter light, with the camera often holding on a single unmoving face or a static room while the horror happens just out of frame. The palette is muted and drained, broken up by sudden flashes of saturated color in memory sequences and courtroom scenes that feel stark and procedural. The sound design leans on unsettling silences, distant hum of appliances, and sparse, dissonant strings that thicken the dread. Vibe: bleak, airless, quietly suffocating, a slow-burn unease rather than a jolt. Pacing is deliberate and jumps between timelines, with the arc of its central figure tracking a lonely, deteriorating man and the community and institutions around him that look away. Intensity is high: graphic and disturbing violence, gore, necrophilia, sexual abuse of minors, alcoholism, and cruelty toward Black and deaf victims, all shown with unflinching detail. Not gentle, and not for background viewing. Made for viewers who want a dark, serious true-crime drama and can sit with its harrowing material.
