The story
Sean Anderson partners with his mom's boyfriend on a mission to find his grandfather, who is thought to be missing on a mythical island.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated daylight and lush, over-the-top tropical color define this family adventure: glowing jungle greens, turquoise lagoons, and sunlit cliffs filmed in wide, sweeping shots that keep the island feeling enormous and a little absurd. Its sound is bombastic, with a big orchestral score, whooshing creature effects, and boisterous pop-rock cues that rise with each new spectacle. The vibe is buoyant, playful, and cheerfully silly, the kind of crowd-pleasing popcorn ride to put on for a lazy weekend afternoon or a family movie night. Pacing is brisk and eventful, with one set piece tumbling into the next, and the emotional arc is light: a teenager and a gruff stepfather-figure slowly warm to each other while they search for a missing grandfather. Intensity is mild to moderate: plenty of cartoonish peril, falls, giant creatures chasing the heroes, and comic action, but no gore and little real menace. It suits families, young teens, and anyone who wants escapist fun with a sense of humor and a giant lizard or two.
