The story

It's a jungle out there for Blu, Jewel and their three kids after they're hurtled from Rio de Janeiro to the wilds of the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in, he goes beak-to-beak with the vengeful Nigel, and meets the most fearsome adversary of all: his father-in-law.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated 3D animation that feels like a sunlit jungle postcard: dense emerald canopy, flashes of macaw red and cobalt, warm light filtering through leaves, and water that glints and splashes with a convincingly wet sheen. Camera moves are lively and swoopy, sweeping through foliage and over river rapids, with frequent cuts that keep the frame busy. The score is buoyant Brazilian-flavoured pop and percussion, bouncing along with the energy of a samba band, punctuated by big musical numbers that feel like celebrations. Vibe: sunny, chaotic, warm-hearted. It suits a lazy weekend afternoon with kids, a family movie night, or a light comfort rewatch when you want colour and noise. Pacing is brisk and slapstick-driven, with the emotional register staying gentle: a fish-out-of-water father learning to loosen up and become part of a larger, noisy family. Intensity is low: some peril, a few chase scenes and mild jungle menace, with villainous characters played for comedy and no real gore or cruelty. Made for families and younger viewers, and for adults who enjoy bright, good-natured animation.
