The story
Play as either "Hot Spot" Harvey, his cousin Roxy Roks, Junior or Missy searching for the lost treasure of the infamous "Jaxton Max". Your quest for fortune and glory will not be easy however. This adventure is full of baddies aimed at stopping you dead in your tracks. Use knives to dig through walls, bullets to battle the baddies, grappling hooks to jump over long distances, oxygen tanks to breath under water and torches to see what lurks underground. Collect keys to get past locked doors and to open treasure chests. Avoid the quicksand, tar pits, spikes, fire pits, thumpers and other traps along the way. Few ever return from their expeditions into the deep jungles. So, if you are brave enough, the "Jungles of Maxtheria" awaits!
What it’s like
Side-scrolling jungle expeditions with the sideways view kept steady, so each cave, rope bridge and flooded passage reads clearly at a glance. Underground stretches are lit mostly by the flicker of your own torch, and underwater sections turn the pace slower and more careful as you watch your oxygen. The mood is adventurous and playful rather than bleak: a tense, step-by-step treasure hunt built on digging through walls, swinging across gaps and dodging quicksand, tar, spikes and fire pits. Combat is light, arcade-style shooting against baddies, with danger coming mostly from traps and fall deaths, not from anything gory. The rhythm is trial and error: a run of careful jumps, a sudden ambush, then a quiet stretch of searching for keys to unlock the next chest. Its people are four treasure seekers pursuing the same fortune. It suits a single-player evening at a PC or Mac, or anyone who wants a retro-minded jungle adventure with a light, fun tone and a steady ramp of challenge.
