The story
As the world's first generation of superheroes (who received their powers in the 1930s) become the revered elder guard in the present, their superpowered children struggle to live up to the legendary feats of their parents.
What it’s like
Glossy, saturated superhero spectacle with a retro-noir undertow: bright primary costumes against grey 1930s sepia flashbacks, sleek present-day interiors of glass and chrome, and CGI-heavy skies that favour big wide establishing shots over handheld grit. The score leans on orchestral swells and punchy action cues, while quieter scenes lean on dialogue in plush living rooms. Pacing is deliberate, with long setup and family-drama stretches broken by bursts of fight choreography. The emotional register is earnest and melodramatic, with a mood that is part aspirational, part sour: a family of golden idols quietly coming apart. Its people's arcs trace grown children stuck in the shadow of heroic parents, testing loyalty and resentment. Violence is frequent and stylised, with superpowered fights, bloody moments and some peril, though nothing relentlessly gory; sexual content is brief and mild. It suits a weekend binge with the lights half on, or a comfort rewatch when you want big spectacle and soap-opera family politics, and it is for viewers who enjoy comic-book bombast and multi-generation drama more than gritty realism.
