The story

At America's only college for superheroes, gifted students put their moral boundaries to the test, competing for the university's top ranking, and a chance to join The Seven, Vought International's elite superhero team. When the school's dark secrets come to light, they must decide what kind of heroes they want to become.

What it’s like

Gen V has the glossy, saturated look of a superhero prestige series: bright campus lawns and sterile white corridors under flat fluorescent light, punctuated by sudden bursts of red and neon when powers flare. The camera is mostly handheld and close, pushing into faces during fights and lingering on messy dorm rooms and lecture halls with a restless, almost documentary energy. The score leans on heavy pop-rock and synth stingers, and the soundtrack often cuts sharply between brightness and silence. Violence is frequent and graphic, with bodies torn apart, blood spraying across clean sets, and sexual content and nudity that come up regularly and bluntly; it is intense and often gory, and the dark comedy makes the cruelty more jarring rather than softer. The vibe is cynical and brash, with a bite of absurd satire about corporate heroism and campus status games, and an undercurrent of melancholy beneath the jokes. Pacing is brisk, with episodes that build toward ugly reveals. A group of young people with dangerous gifts slowly confronts what their ambitions cost them. For viewers who enjoy irreverent, blood-soaked superhero satire and don't need anything gentle.
