The story

Mark Grayson is a normal teenager except for the fact that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet. Shortly after his seventeenth birthday, Mark begins to develop powers of his own and enters into his father's tutelage.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated daylight over sprawling suburban streets and gleaming superhero skylines, with hand-drawn-style animation that favors bold primary colors, clean outlines and sudden bursts of spatter-red blood against pale sky. The tone swings between sunny sitcom warmth and sudden brutality: family dinners and awkward teenage phone calls give way to fights that land with heavy, meaty impact, sound design thick with crunches and wet thuds, and a score that pulses with brassy, propulsive energy. The pacing is brisk and episodic, with quieter domestic beats letting the anxiety of a young man in an impossible inheritance breathe between set pieces. The intensity is high: frequent, graphic gore, bodies torn apart, sexual content and profanity throughout, and cruelty that hits hard, so this is not gentle viewing. Its tone is aggressive, anxious and darkly funny, a coming-of-age story about a teenager bruised by his own destiny. It suits late-night binge sessions for adults who enjoy adult animation, irreverent humor and superhero stories that do not flinch from violence or emotional damage.
