The story

While romancing Palmer, a much younger schoolteacher, plastic surgeon Danny Maccabee enlists his loyal assistant Katherine to pretend to be his soon to be ex-wife, in order to cover up a careless lie. When more lies backfire, Katherine's kids become involved, and everyone heads off for a weekend in Hawaii that will change all their lives.

What it’s like

Bright, sun-saturated Hawaiian daylight with wide, postcard-clean landscapes: beaches, turquoise water, lush green waterfalls and resort pools, all shot in a glossy, even digital look that makes every frame feel like a holiday brochure. The camera stays mostly conventional and sitcom-friendly, with plenty of medium two-shots over dinner tables and cheerful master shots of the group wandering through scenery. The sound is breezy and upbeat, with pop-rock needle drops, ukulele-tinged island music, and easy ambient surf. The vibe is light, warm, and mildly silly, the kind of easygoing escapism that suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a long-haul flight, or background viewing with a snack. Pacing is brisk and genial, with broad physical comedy and running gags punctuating the romantic set-ups, and the emotional register stays sweet and forgiving throughout. Its central arc follows a vain, guarded man slowly learning honesty and a single mother warily opening up to a new affection, all resolved with feel-good warmth. The content is comedic and mostly gentle: some crude jokes and sexual innuendo, mild language, bickering and playful humiliation, but no real violence, gore, or dread. It is for people who want a sunny, affectionate romcom that is easy to laugh along with and easy to sit back into.
