The story
The curtain rises on Sarasa Watanabe, a starry-eyed 5'10" student who hopes to perform as a male lead role in the all-female Kouka Acting Troupe. She forms a friendship with her new roommate, a former idol. Together, they’re in for the role of a lifetime.
What it’s like
Bright, glossy hand-drawn animation with saturated stage colours: spotlight golds, velvet reds, and the cool blue of rehearsal-room light, cutting to soft afternoon sun through dormitory windows and the quiet of a shared bedroom late at night. The musical numbers are the centrepiece, with the camera moving across dancers in full stage lighting and the score swelling with bright orchestral pop and ballads. Between performances the pace eases into easy, observational slice-of-life scenes: meals, practice runs, a roommate's quiet confidences. The vibe is warm, earnest and sometimes giddy, with a tender undercurrent of nerves and ambition. It suits a cheerful weekend binge, a comfort rewatch, or a lift on a grey afternoon. The emotional register is hopeful, with tears of frustration and joy rather than despair, and the arcs follow young performers pushing against their own doubts and each other's expectations, gradually finding their footing and their friendships. Intensity is gentle: there is no gore or sexual content, and the rivalry and pressure stay emotional rather than cruel. It is for viewers who love theatre, musical numbers, and close friendships between young women, and who want something sincere, uplifting and easy to sit with.
