The story

A year after a subglacial volcano erupts, mysterious elements from prehistoric times emerge from the melting ice, bringing unforeseen consequences.

What it’s like

Overcast Icelandic daylight over black sand, glacier-blue ice and wide, empty lowland plains, with the cold grey-green palette of a country where weather decides everything. Compositions are patient and often static, with long pauses in ordinary rooms and roads, and the camera lingers on fog, rain and the slow edge of a melting glacier. The score is sparse and low, with drones and wind more present than melody, so silence feels heavy. The mood is uneasy and melancholic, a slow-burn mystery in which a small, tight-knit community is unsettled by something ancient rising from the ice. The pace is deliberate, the emotional register brooding, with arcs that follow frightened, guarded locals who gradually face what they have been hiding from each other. Violence is occasional and sudden rather than constant, with some deaths and a steady undercurrent of fear, but no gore for its own sake. Best suited to rainy evenings, late-night viewing alone, or anyone drawn to atmospheric Nordic dread who has patience for a slow build.
