The story

In this sequel to "Vikings," a hundred years have passed and a new generation of legendary heroes arises to forge its own destiny — and make history.

What it’s like

Cold, grey northern light over muddy shorelines, longships under overcast skies, and fires burning low in smoky timber halls, with the palette leaning to steel blues, peat browns and blood red. The camera is mostly handheld and close during battles, tracking through shield walls and mud, while quieter scenes settle into steadier medium shots of feasting halls and rain-soaked villages. The score is drums, low strings and chanting, swelling hard into clashes and falling away to wind and crackling hearth fire. Vibe: dark, grimy and grave, with a rough-edged, weathered tone. Pacing alternates between slow political maneuvering and sudden, brutal action, and the emotional core is young people in a harsh world learning what loyalty and survival cost, with a sworn-brotherhood thread running through it. Violence is frequent and graphic, with bloody sword and axe combat, impalements and executions, plus some sexual content and nudity; fear and cruelty are constant undercurrents. Best for viewers who want a grim, bloody historical drama with big battles and the appetite for intrigue. Not for anyone seeking something gentle.
