The story

Mansoor, a reserved and reticent Pithoo (porter), helps pilgrims make an arduous journey upwards to the temple town. His world turns around when he meets the beautiful and rebellious Mukku who draws him into a whirlwind of intense love.

What it’s like

Wide, sun-warmed mountain vistas give way to cramped stone lanes thick with pilgrims, incense smoke and wet dust, with a bright, saturated palette of saffron, marigold and deep Himalayan green. Songs swell over the romance in a classic Hindi-film way, all lush strings and emotive vocals, while the quieter scenes on the trail lean on ambient river noise and wind. The pace is steady and tender early on, with a slow-building attraction between two strong-willed people, then turns urgent and frightening once the mountains and rivers rage. The disaster sequences are large-scale and chaotic, with water, debris and panicked crowds, but the violence stays mostly off the body: dread and peril rather than gore. Overall it's a warm, earnest romance with a sweeping, melodramatic register and a spiritual undertow, suited to a rainy weekend or a comfort watch. It's for people who want a sincere love story set against dramatic landscapes, without graphic content.
