The story
Kirby Air Riders is the long-awaited sequel to Kirby Air Ride on the Gamecube. Pick your rider, pick your machine, and mount up for competition! Take on your rivals in frantic arena battles or fast-paced races on the ground and in the air. Use the Boost Charge button to brake and control your turns as your machine automatically fights for top speed. Fill your Boost Charge Gauge as you drift around the bend and release it to trigger an explosive dash!
What it’s like
Bright, saturated cartoon worlds in candy pinks, sky blues and bouncing primary colours, with the camera pulled back far enough to show a whole pack of tiny round riders tearing across open tracks and floating arenas. Motion is the point: hover machines leave glowing trails, Boost Charge flares pulse as the gauge fills through a drift, and a release throws the rider forward in a burst of light and rushing wind. The soundtrack is bouncy, chiptune-flavoured and upbeat, with crowd-pleasing fanfares and quick sound cues that keep the energy high, while the bigger race moments swell into triumphant brass. Its vibe is playful, breezy and high-energy, the sort of thing to put on for a lively evening with friends, a silly afternoon by yourself, or a short burst of competitive fun between other things. Matches are fast, pacing is chaotic but forgiving, and the mood is cheerful rather than tense, with rivalries playfully shouted across the screen and little tension beyond wanting to win. Violence is absent in any real sense; collisions knock riders about and send them tumbling with cartoon comedy, with no gore, no blood and no menace. It suits players who want a sociable, colourful racer that is easy to pick up, goofy without being cruel, and happy to be played in short rounds or long sessions alike.
