The story

When high-powered executive Samantha LeBon hatches a scheme to spend a romantic Christmas with her new employee – the unsuspecting, blithesome James – his wife, their kids and their two dogs, Rocks and Daphne, must rescue him before he makes a terrible mistake.

What it’s like

Bright, flat suburban daylight and a glossy 1990s studio look, with warm interiors full of holiday clutter: tinsel, fireplace glow, a cluttered kitchen and a snowy cul-de-sac that feels more like a postcard than a real town. The camera stays mostly conventional, medium two-shots and sitcom-style coverage, with brisk cutting and frequent cuts to the dogs' sly reaction shots. The sound is buoyant and busy, a bouncy orchestral-pop score under constant chatter, with the adult characters' voices and the two talking babies' deadpan asides carrying the jokes. Its vibe is breezy, cheeky and cozy, with a light holiday-comedy warmth. It suits a lazy December afternoon, a family movie night, or background viewing while wrapping presents. The pacing is quick and farcical, the register playful and mildly romantic, and the arcs follow a loyal husband and wife rallying to keep a marriage intact against an overeager rival. Intensity is low: some sexual innuendo and flirtation, a brief slapstick tumble, no real violence, no gore, and no fear beyond mild comic peril. It's for viewers who want a silly, gentle Christmas comedy with talking-animal charm and no harsh edges.
