The story

In 2001, somewhere in rural India, two young brides get accidentally swapped on a train. In the ensuing chaos, they both encounter a host of colourful characters, resulting in hilarious and unexpected consequences.

What it’s like

Warm, sun-saturated colour carries this film: brilliant pinks, yellows and greens in the saris against dusty ochre lanes, fields and railway platforms, with bright morning light and soft haze at the edges of the frame. The camera stays mostly composed and unhurried, lingering on village life and the small comic beats that unfold around it, while a light folk-tinged score with gentle percussion and a few playful songs keeps the mood buoyant. Its vibe is warm, whimsical and good-humoured, with a bit of gentle bewilderment. It suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a family watch, or a comfort rewatch with a cup of chai. Pacing is easygoing and episodic, and the emotional register is tender and funny rather than tense. The story follows two young women finding their own footing and voices after a mix-up, and their friendship and independence slowly take centre stage. Intensity is very low: there is no real violence, no gore, and the sexual content is nonexistent beyond light romantic flirtation. It is gentle, safe viewing for anyone who wants humour, warmth and a hopeful, character-led story.
