The story
Victor is a new student at Creekwood High School on his own journey of self-discovery, facing challenges at home, adjusting to a new city, and struggling with his sexual orientation. When it all seems too much, he reaches out to Simon to help him navigate the ups and downs of high school.
What it’s like
Bright, sun-washed suburban daylight and warm interiors give this teen comedy-drama a sunny, lived-in look, with school hallways, bedrooms and diners framed in steady medium shots and plenty of shared close-ups of faces mid-conversation. The palette leans on cheerful pastels and warm yellows, and the sound is pop-inflected soundtrack music with chatty, overlapping dialogue and the buzz of a school day. Its mood is warm and earnest, with flashes of anxious tenderness whenever home life tightens. The pace is brisk and episodic, built around phone calls, group hangouts and quiet confessions in parked cars. Its people are young and searching: a teenager far from his old life, slowly learning to trust his feelings and the friends who will hold them. Some arguments and emotional scenes run high, but the show is gentle, with no graphic violence, and its sexual content is limited to kissing and talk about attraction rather than explicit scenes. It suits a comfort rewatch on a weekend afternoon or an easy evening alone, and it is made for viewers who want a hopeful, romantic coming-of-age story about finding one's footing and one's people.
