The story

Join intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran in her first new 2D Metroid story in 19 years. Samus’ story continues after the events of the Metroid Fusion game when she descends upon planet ZDR to investigate a mysterious transmission sent to the Galactic Federation. The remote planet has become overrun by vicious alien lifeforms and chilling mechanical menaces. Samus is more agile and capable than ever, but can she overcome the inhuman threat stalking the depths of ZDR?

What it’s like

Dark, sealed corridors lit by the pulse of hazard-coloured lamps, bioluminescent greens and acid oranges bleeding across wet alien stone, with the occasional stark flash of a sensor beam or a boss's glowing core cutting the gloom. The camera stays locked to a tight side-scrolling frame, so every room feels like a pressurised cell, and the stylised animation makes Samus's movements snap crisply between run, roll and rapid aim. The score is sparse and tense, with long stretches of ambient hum, mechanical drones and distant echoing machinery that drop into a sharp synth pulse when something hunts you. Vibe: claustrophobic, pressure-tight dread with bursts of adrenaline. It suits a late evening at home with headphones, or a focused stretch of play when you want a challenge that rewards patience and memorising patterns. Intensity is moderate to high: frequent combat against grotesque creatures and mechanical enemies, with brief, stylised violence, some bloody impact visuals and jump-scare-style tension, but no gratuitous gore. Pacing is brisk in fights and deliberately slow in exploration, with a rhythm of backtracking through familiar halls as new abilities open new routes. It is for players who enjoy tense, skill-driven action and quiet, methodical discovery in a hostile, isolated world.
