The story
From the creator of The Binding of Isaac, Super Meat Boy and The End is Nigh comes... Mewgenics! A game where you hoard, breed, train and set cats out on epic adventures through a sprawling world of complete chaos. Level up your team as you venture further and further from your home, collect unique items, defeat epic bosses, gain mutations, and return home so you can breed and further your bloodline in this turn based legacy roguelike draft sim about cats!
What it’s like
Bright, cartoonish pixel-adjacent cat sprites crowd a cluttered home base, all wide-eyed, scruffy and lovingly ugly, set against warm browns and candy-bright dungeon palettes that shift as you venture outward. The look is chunky and hand-drawn with a scrappy indie charm, and the soundtrack leans on chirpy, chiptune-flavoured loops that turn playful and a little manic when fights break out. Turn-based battles are tactical and readable, while the real rhythm comes from the slow loop of breeding, inheriting traits and mutations, and tending a sprawling family line over generations. Its tone is goofy, warm and mischievous, with comedy in the absurd cat names, odd item descriptions and unpredictable offspring. Violence is cartoonish and bloodless in feel, with boss fights that can be tense and occasionally harsh when a favourite cat falls, but nothing graphic. It suits a relaxed evening of fiddling with a spreadsheet of kittens, or a long session where you want to plan a bloodline without any real dread. It is for players who enjoy roguelike strategy, creature breeding and collecting, and the satisfaction of nurturing a messy, quirky team.
