The story

A real-life story of additional chief mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill who helped in the rescue of people when a coal mine in Raniganj, West Bengal, was flooded. The incident dates back to 1989.

What it’s like

Dim, sooty lamplight and the close, wet dark of a flooding mine shaft give this a claustrophobic, rain-heavy feel, while the surface scenes sit in dusty, sun-bleached colour. The camera stays close on faces and cramped passages, and the score swells with urgent percussion during rescue sequences, then drops away to the drip of water and strained breathing. The vibe is tense and determined, with grit rather than glamour, best suited to an evening when you want a gripping true-events story with clear stakes. A man in authority pushes against bureaucratic inertia and a disaster that will not wait, and the emotional arc is one of stubborn resolve under pressure. Peril is constant and the flood scenes are frightening, with some violence and danger but no lingering gore. It suits viewers who enjoy disaster and survival dramas, workplace heroism, and films where the pace is driven by the clock.
