The story
Hell has frozen over. Only you can protect the final burning pyre from the forces of heaven and restore the inferno. Monster Train brings a new strategic layer to roguelike deckbuilding, with three vertical playing fields to defend. Includes the released updates Wild Mutations and Friends & Foes! No playthrough is ever the same, it’s a fresh challenge every time. You’ll never play the same deck twice!
What it’s like
Hard-edged, painterly fantasy in a cold, glowing palette: frost-blue stone and ice set against the orange and crimson of infernal fire, with chunky card art and clean, readable icons laid over a moody backdrop. The play field is a vertical tower viewed straight on, its floors stacked like a sliced diagram, so every move reads at a glance. Sound leans on low, atmospheric drones, crisp clicks and card snaps, and steady percussive stings when something flares up, creating a tense but tactile hum that suits focused sessions. Each run is a tight loop of short, deliberate turns where strategy matters more than reflexes, building a deck of demons and spells that snowballs into bright, satisfying combos. Violence is stylised and bloodless, with monsters clashing in fiery bursts and no gore, though the fights are relentless and the difficulty climbs quickly. Vibe: smart, moody and quietly addictive, best for late evenings or a single "one more run" stretch. Made for players who enjoy deckbuilding puzzles, roguelike replayability and tactical choices with a dark, infernal flavour.
