The story

Challenge your friends to fight through TowerFall's Dark World, with or against you, in this massive expansion for the acclaimed archery brawler. Team up to challenge the all-new Dark World Mode - a co-op campaign for 1-4 players. Battle your way to hideous boss monsters, and face the brutal challenge of the added Legendary difficulty mode. Expand your roster of playable fighters with the undead pirate Vainglorious Ghoul and 9 more alternate archers. Dark World also adds a powerful level creation tool, allowing players to create and share their own new Versus towers. The Dark World Expansion pushes TowerFall further in every direction, a great excuse to revisit the beloved indie fighter.

What it’s like

Chunky pixel art in saturated, high-contrast palettes: bright lava oranges and cold cyan stone against inky black, with the screen often crowded by tiny archers, arrows and flashes of gore-free particle bursts. The look is crisp and retro-arcade, with chiptune-leaning music that pulses hard during fights and drops into moody, echoing tension between waves. Rooms are compact and vertically stacked, so the frame feels like a fast, cramped shaft where every jump and wrap-around matters. Vibe: frantic, sharp, mischievous, with a dark-fantasy edge that leans grim without getting grisly. Violence is cartoonish and constant: enemies and archers are skewered, shot or exploded in quick bursts, with ghostly undead and hideous bosses, but there's no realistic blood or gore and no sexual content. The pace is relentless in co-op, where four players drop in and out of lethal, cooperative chaos, and Legendary difficulty tightens the screws until every arrow counts. It suits a loud evening with friends, a competitive couch session, or a solo run for players who want tight, unforgiving precision. Made for fans of arcade challenge, couch multiplayer and quick-death retries who enjoy shouting over the screen.
