The story

Mortal Kombat XL is the complete edition of Mortal Kombat X. This includes all downloadable content characters from the two released Kombat Packs, almost all bonus alternate costumes available at the time of release, and improved gameplay, and netcode featuring a rollback system.

What it’s like

Hard-edged arena lighting and saturated, sweat-slicked close-ups: the fighters glint under stage spotlights, with bruised reds, sickly greens and smoky purples bleeding into dark, cavernous backdrops of temples, sewers and ruined cities. Cinematic finishers play out in grainy, slow-motion blood spray, and the sound is thick and percussive, with crunching impacts, guttural grunts, and a driving, booming score that swells under tense rounds and falls away into the sudden hush before a finishing blow. Pacing is rapid and explosive in matches, then quiet and methodical in the single-player ladders and challenge towers, where the tone leans toward gleeful, pulpy spectacle rather than dread. The intensity is high: frequent, graphic gore, dismemberment and bloody fatalities, all delivered with cartoonish exaggeration instead of realism. It suits a late-evening session with friends on a couch, or a solo grind through a tournament with headphones on. This is for players who want visceral, over-the-top fighting, a full roster to learn, and a crowd-pleasing celebration of brutal, theatrical violence.
