The story

Ten years after a Valentine's Day tragedy claimed the lives of five miners, Harry Warden returns for a vengeful massacre among teen sweethearts gearing up for another party.

What it’s like

Harsh, saturated red and cold blue-grey dominate this 2009 slasher remake, with a mining town's industrial grime lit by sodium streetlamps, flashlight beams cutting through black tunnels, and the constant glint of blood on glossy surfaces. The camera moves briskly and often handheld, lurching through corridors and across crowded party rooms, while the score leans on pounding synth stings and metallic percussion that spike with every sudden movement. The vibe is grimy, loud and mean, the kind of night-in horror to put on with friends when you want jump scares and a body count rather than atmosphere. Pacing is relentless, with short scene beats strung between kills, and the emotional register stays brash and knowing, with teen banter and a few grim sheriff-and-survivor exchanges rather than any real grief. Intensity is high: frequent, graphic slashings with gore and blood spray, a few nudity and sexual scenes, and constant threat and shock. This is not gentle. It suits viewers who want a loud, bloody, holiday-themed slasher with a masked killer and little restraint.
