The story
In their new overseas home, an American family soon finds themselves caught in the middle of a coup, and they frantically look for a safe escape in an environment where foreigners are being immediately executed.
What it’s like
Handheld, kinetic camerawork keeps the frame jittery and close, with hotel corridors, rooftops and rain-slicked streets lit by flickering fires, tracer-bright gunfire and sodium streetlamps in a hot, saturated palette of orange, dust-brown and bruised blue. The city feels humid and claustrophobic, all cramped stairwells and sealed windows, and the score pounds with synth pulse and low drones that rarely let up. Vibe: sweaty, relentless panic with a thriller's momentum. It suits a late-night watch with the lights off, or an evening when you want tension to carry you straight through. Pacing is breathless and the story is about a father and mother pushing themselves and their young daughter through one dangerous escape after another, their bond tested under pressure. Intensity is high: frequent gunfire, sudden brutal violence, bodies shot and beaten, and constant threat of execution, though gore is mostly restrained and the peril is more fear than graphic detail. It is for viewers who want an adrenaline survival thriller, not a gentle watch.
