The story

Enter the world of Geronimo Stilton, where another funny adventure is always right around the corner. Each book is a fast-paced adventure with lively art and a unique format kids 7-10 will love. When my nephew, Benjamin, invited me to Career Day at his school, things did not turn out the way I expected. I caused a volcanic explosion, got tangled in the tunnel slide on the playground, and accidentally let the class's pet gecko out of its cage! Rat munching rattlesnakes-how was I going to get myself out of this mess?

What it’s like

Bright, busy and cartoonish, with the lively, multicolour energy of a children's picture book: bold panels, frequent illustrations and playful typography that jump around the page, and a cheerful mouse-world of classrooms, playgrounds and tunnel slides. The voice is chatty and first-person, full of jokes, exclamations and sudden comic mishaps that come one after another, so the reading rhythm is quick and light, with short chapters that are easy to dip into. Tone is goofy, warm and low-stakes, with mess and embarrassment rather than real danger, and the emotional register stays playful, centred on a bumbling narrator who keeps blundering and muddling his way through a day that gets away from him. Intensity is very mild: slapstick chaos, a volcano-sized mishap and some scary-sounding but harmless creatures, with no violence, gore or cruelty. It suits a rainy afternoon, a reluctant young reader, or a parent looking for something silly to read aloud, and it is for children around seven to ten who enjoy zany humour and visual, fast-moving stories.
