The story

Heiress Joanna Stayton hires carpenter Dean Proffitt to build a closet on her yacht—and refuses to pay him for the project when it's done. But after Joanna accidentally falls overboard and loses her memory, Dean sees an opportunity to get even.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated 1980s California: sun-warmed marinas, pastel mansion interiors, and the glossy, sea-spray sheen of a yacht under a hard blue sky, shot with the easy, sitcom-friendly framing of a mainstream studio comedy. The score is breezy and synth-tinged, and the sound of waves and cheap motel-room clutter does a lot of the scene-setting. Vibe: sunny, mischievous, warm-hearted, with a farcical edge. It suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a light comfort rewatch, or an easygoing evening when you want to laugh without thinking hard. Pacing is brisk and cheerful, with broad physical comedy and quick reversals rather than quiet stretches. Emotionally it moves from prickly class resentment toward affection, following a rich, spoiled woman and a blunt working-class carpenter who gradually drop their defences around each other. The intensity is low: some rough talk, a few tense moments on the water, and a little slapstick, but no real violence or gore and nothing frightening. It is for people who want a romantic comedy with a generous sense of humour, a touch of class satire, and a happy, gentle ending.
