What it’s like
Bright, flat arcade colour on a dark ground: the blue-walled mazes glow against black, and the yellow chomper and pastel ghosts stay crisp on a retina screen. Movement is clockwork and quick, with short bleeps for every dot and a warbling siren that quickens as the power pellets run out. Sessions are short and looping, the kind of thing you pick up for five minutes while waiting for a train or a kettle, then find you have lost an hour to one more run for a higher score. Its mood is playful and nostalgic, with a steady, low-stakes tension when the ghosts close in. There is no blood, no gore and no sexual content; the only danger is the chase itself, and a lost life simply restarts the maze. The new maze packs and tips add a modern layer over the original design, which suits players who grew up with the cabinet and want to revisit it on a phone or tablet, or anyone curious about the classic arcade rhythm in a compact, gentle form.
