The story

A remake of the 1999 strategy game Pharaoh and its expansion Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile.

What it’s like

Warm, unhurried daylight over a sun-baked valley, with the Nile a ribbon of deep green through ochre sand and a sky the colour of cornflowers. The isometric camera pulls back to show whole districts at once, so the city reads as a living diagram: barges drifting along the river, workers trudging between fields and granaries, smoke rising from brick kilns. The soundscape is gentle and rhythmic, with soft strings, distant market chatter and the hush of wind across dunes. Moments of threat arrive as small, unshowy interruptions rather than spectacle. Vibe: calm, methodical, quietly satisfying. It suits a slow weekend afternoon, a background session with a cup of tea, or a late evening when you want to untangle a problem one street at a time. Progression is steady and rarely frantic; the pleasure lies in watching a settlement grow from scattered huts into a prosperous, orderly city. Violence is minimal and bloodless, with occasional military events handled at a distance, so it sits comfortably for anyone wanting something gentle. It is for players who enjoy planning, logistics and quiet mastery, and who find the slow rise of a well-run city deeply absorbing.
