The story

Assassin’s Creed Origins is an action-adventure game set in ancient Egypt at the end of the Ptolemaic era. The story follows Bayek, a Medjay tasked with protecting the people, as personal tragedy draws him into a wider conflict that leads to the origins of the Assassin Brotherhood. The game features a large open-world recreation of Egypt, including cities, deserts, and the Nile, with an increased emphasis on exploration. Gameplay combines stealth, melee and ranged combat, and role-playing elements such as character leveling, skill trees, and gear progression.

What it’s like

Sun-bleached and sweeping, with wide desert vistas under a hard noon sun giving way to the amber glow of dusk over the Nile and torchlit interiors of temples and tombs. The palette runs ochre, gold and deep blue, and the camera sits at a patient third-person distance, so Egypt reads as a landscape to wander rather than a corridor to run. Sand drifts across dunes, reeds sway on riverbanks, and crowds in bustling markets murmur in the background, while the score leans on low strings, drums and hand-played lutes that swell during fights and recede to near silence in the open desert. Vibe: unhurried, melancholy-tinged adventure with a sense of grand scale. It suits a long weekend session, a slow evening exploring with no particular goal, or stretches of quiet travel between missions. Pacing is deliberate: long rides across the dunes, leisurely side quests and scouting before the occasional burst of stealth or combat. The emotional arc follows a grieving protector slowly drawn into a larger conflict, with a steady build toward something bigger. Violence is frequent but stylised: sword and bow fights, stabbings from hiding, and some blood, with no gore emphasis and mild peril throughout. For players who love immersive historical settings, gradual progression and exploring a world at their own speed.
