The story

A remaster of the original Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations, released exclusively as part of the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy bundle.

What it’s like

Bright, hand-drawn anime sprites stand against painted courtroom and street backdrops in saturated primary colours, with exaggerated expressions and bouncy, theatrical animation that turns every testimony into a small stage show. The score moves between brass-tinged courtroom themes, jazzy noir for investigations, and sudden strings for the big reveals, and the pings and stamps of the evidence interface give the whole thing a tidy, tactile rhythm. Pacing is conversational: long stretches of reading and dialogue, broken by tense bouts of pressing witnesses and hunting contradictions, with the occasional wordless beat of quiet dread. The mood is playful and earnest at once, a warm, wry comedy that turns serious when a client's life is on the line, and its characters, a stubborn young lawyer, his loyal friends and rivals, slowly earn each other's trust. Violence is off-screen and mostly in the past. Murder and grief are discussed plainly, with some emotional intensity, but nothing graphic. It suits a relaxed evening, a comfort replay, or a long train ride, and fits players who love mystery puzzles and character-driven drama with a sense of humour.
