The story

The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures is the ninth installment of the Ace Attorney series of text adventure video games. New gameplay mechanics introduced to the series include Dance of Deduction, in which Ryunosuke must deduce mistakes and oversights in Herlock's overboard logic and uncover new facts, and Summation Examination, in which players must point out discrepancies among jurors' arguments to make their defendant’s case and ultimately secure a "Not Guilty" verdict.

What it’s like

Bright, theatrical anime art on painted Victorian backdrops: smoky gaslit streets, cluttered parlours in amber lamplight, and the clockwork-and-brass sheen of a steam-age London that feels both faithful and fantastical. Character portraits snap into place with exaggerated expressions and quick comic beats, while the score swings between jaunty brass and music-box whimsy and drops into hushed strings when a confession lands. Pacing is conversational and deliberate, built on long stretches of reading, questioning witnesses, and presenting evidence, with punchy bursts of animated courtroom drama. The emotional register runs warm and witty with a streak of sincere melancholy, following a naive young apprentice learning to trust his own judgement against a flamboyant mentor. Violence is offstage and mostly implied, with brief references to murder and cruelty, and racism is confronted directly in the story, so it can carry weight in places. Best suited to mystery fans who enjoy wordplay, lighthearted banter, and a cozy evening with a puzzle to chew on, especially players who like Sherlockian deduction dressed in steampunk finery.
