The story

Follow Charlie Cale, a woman with an extraordinary ability to tell when someone is lying, as she hits the road and, at every stop, encounters a new cast of characters and crimes she can't help but solve.

What it’s like

Warm, sun-bleached Americana with a retro gloss: bright daylight over motel parking lots, diners, desert highways and small-town back roads, shot with a lively, saturated palette that leans toward faded yellows, turquoise and dusty reds. The episodes are self-contained and built like classic 1970s caper TV, with brisk cuts, roving handheld camera, and playful framing that often lingers on a character's face while they try not to give themselves away. The score is jaunty, with bluesy guitar and light percussion that undercut the somber edges. Its vibe is wry, scrappy and melancholy underneath, a comfort-watch with a shadow to it, well suited to a lazy weekend binge or a long drive in the back seat. Pacing is brisk and episodic, each hour a self-contained puzzle that resolves with a satisfying click, while Charlie's own arc of restless loneliness and quiet loyalty to the people she meets builds slowly across the season. Violence is present, usually sudden and brief, with some murders shown on screen but little gore, and themes of grief, betrayal and cruelty surface through dialogue more than spectacle. It suits viewers who want clever mysteries, a wry and warm lead, and a road-movie sense of wandering through a strange America.
