The story
A caveman forms a bond with a dinosaur as they struggle to survive in a hostile world.
What it’s like
Hand-drawn 2D animation with bold, inky linework, flat earthy palettes of ochre, moss and bruised purple, and sudden flares of volcanic orange against night skies. Its wordless prehistoric landscapes are dense jungles, rain-lashed cliffs and ash-grey plains, shot with a kinetic, almost storyboard-driven camera that cuts hard through fights and then holds on quiet, sun-dappled moments between a hunter and his dinosaur companion. Sound design carries much of the weight: crunching bone, roaring predators, wind and thunder, with sparse percussion and low drones rather than melody. The mood is raw, tense and mournful, a survival story that stays close to primal fear and grief. Expect frequent, graphic violence: bloody kills, dismemberment and gore, along with disturbing deaths and intense peril, landing hard and often. It is not gentle. Best suited to adult viewers who want a brutal, wordless, animated survival drama for a late-night watch, and to fans of fierce animal bonds and stark, uncompromising genre animation.
