The story

Video game bad guy Ralph and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz must risk it all by traveling to the World Wide Web in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope's video game, Sugar Rush. In way over their heads, Ralph and Vanellope rely on the citizens of the internet — the netizens — to help navigate their way, including an entrepreneur named Yesss, who is the head algorithm and the heart and soul of trend-making site BuzzzTube.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated 3D animation that never sits still: the arcade and internet worlds are rendered in glossy, candy-colored surfaces, with dense neon-lit cityscapes of scrolling screens, pop-up windows and glowing data streams that spill across the frame. Camera moves are fast and kinetic, swooping through crowded digital marketplaces with a cartoon's elastic timing, while quieter interludes settle into warmer, rounder compositions around the two friends. The score is bouncy and full, with pop songs and orchestral swells filling most of the runtime, and the sound design is busy with chimes, notifications and crashing arcade noises. The vibe is joyous, chaotic and playful, with a sweet undercurrent of friendship anxiety. It suits a lively weekend family night, a silly comfort watch, or a sugar-rush afternoon. Pacing is brisk and frequently breathless, and the emotional arc follows two close friends learning to let each other grow up and drift apart without losing what they share. Intensity is mild: some peril, a few tense chase sequences and a lethal-virus threat, but no gore, and violence stays slapstick and cartoonish. It is for families, animation lovers and anyone wanting bright, upbeat energy with heart.
