The story

When the Bad Guys, a crew of criminal animals, are finally caught after years of heists and being the world’s most-wanted villains, Mr. Wolf brokers a deal to save them all from prison.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated CGI animation with punchy, graphic-novel framing: hard cuts, comic-panel inserts, and sudden zooms that keep the eye busy. The palette runs to hot oranges, cool city blues and glossy night-time neon, and the heists unfold in crisp, well-lit set pieces rather than shadowy ones. The sound is brisk and playful, a jazzy, percussive score with plenty of quick-fire banter and sight gags. Its vibe is zippy, cheeky and warm, the kind of thing for a lazy weekend afternoon, a family movie night, or a light pick-me-up after a long week. Pacing is fast and bouncy, with the energy of a caper that never stops to brood. The emotional register stays upbeat: a band of self-styled outcasts, rough around the edges, slowly learns to trust one another and to want something better than their reputations. Intensity is low: there are slapstick tumbles, chases and cartoon peril, but no gore, very little real menace, and nothing frightening for young viewers. It suits families with children, anyone who wants a good-natured heist comedy, and adults who enjoy sharp, self-aware animated humour.
