The story
A pair of bodyguards for a politician find their positions under threat when their employer is implicated in a scandal. Fleeing to Mumbai they find work with a gangster, but also find that the police are onto them.
What it’s like
Jittery handheld camera, tight close-ups and abrupt cuts give the streets, warehouses and cramped rooms a restless, unsteady feel, while smoky amber and sickly blue lighting sinks the night scenes into grimy shadow. The sound leans on thudding bass, sudden percussive bursts and rough street noise rather than melody, so even quiet moments feel tense. The mood is sweaty, clamorous and hard-edged, with flashes of dark humour between the men. Pacing is brisk and jolting, and the central bond between two loyal companions sticking together through trouble gives the chaos an emotional anchor. Violence is frequent and sharp, with torture scenes, gunfire, a few explosions and a revenge thread, shown with real bite rather than cartoonish gore. It is not gentle. It suits late-night viewing for fans of Indian gangster cinema who want raw, noisy, unpolished crime drama, not calm or comfort.
